Moisturiser is the most important skin care product of all. It has two functions; to protect against the elements (sun, wind, air conditioning etc) and to keep the skin moist and soft (just that feeling that woman love).
After cleansing the skin needs to be moisturised to maintain its natural balance so it is important to use a moisturiser that suits your type of skin.
An important thing to remember is that even if you have found the correct moisturiser for your skin, the climate changes throughout the year. In the winter when it is dry (especially since you spend more times indoor where the air is dryer) you will probably need to use a different moisturizer than in the summer when it is warmer. In the summer, moisturiser will help protect against the sun and it will also help your tan last longer.
Moisturisers come in two different basic types; day creams and night creams. If it doesn’t specify on the product which it is, you can assume it is an all day cream which can be used day as well as night.
The difference between day creams and night creams
Rule of thumb is that day creams are lighter in texture and also some contain sun protecting factor (spf) to protect against the sun. Obviously this is not something that you will need during the night. Night creams are generally heavier in texture and are designed to nourish and repair your skin whilst you sleep. Research has shown that the skin will absorb the most during the night and therefore it can be a good idea to load the skin with antioxidants and AHA acids at this time. It isn’t necessary to use both a day cream and a night crème but it is recommended if you have dry skin. Having a moisturiser with spf is virtually a necessity since it will protect your skin from aging. This obviously depends on where in the world you live, but at least a low spf is always a good idea. How to apply…
For best effect use moisturiser both in the morning and in the evening. The skin should always be clean before applying it (and by now you should really know how to get your face really clean). Apply a small amount on your face and neck but avoid the area around the eyes since they are extra sensitive and need a different product (next lesson). It is really important to moisturise after shaving. You can either use a moisturiser or after shave balm. That was the moisturiser for the face. It is time to see what to do with those sensitive areas around the eyes - take me to Lesson 6. Do you need to freshen up on the previous lesson click HERE.
