Finally, something that is more important to men than for woman – exfoliators. This can really be compared with the DIY work at home because everybody knows how important it is to get a smooth wall before you start painting. Men have a slightly rougher skin then woman and the exfoliator is used to carefully remove that outer layer of dead skin cells. By doing this each week your skin will become cleaner, look fresher and absorb moisturisers better.
An exfoliator contains small components that polish the skin. These can be natural products like walnut shell or artificial ones like small plastic balls. Some say that the artificial ones are the best because they won’t rip the skin but this is an ongoing debate so use the product you like the best. One point however, there are some cheap products which can be quite rough so remember, if it feels uncomfortable or even hurts - bin it immediately.
Make sure that you don’t use an exfoliator which is for the body on your face. The components in the exfoliator for the body are more efficient since the components are bigger. There are combination products and those are ok to use for both body and face.
How to apply…
Go through your normal cleaning routine before using the exfoliator. Wet your face again and rub the cream in but remember not to rub too hard. Pay extra attention to the T zone since this is where black heads normally appear. Never use the exfoliator in the area around the eyes. This is because the skin is a lot more delicate here. Rinse the exfoliator off the face with warm water and finish with some cold water so the pores contract. Finish with a good moisturiser. Don’t forget!! If your skin is oily you should exfoliate less often, one or maximum twice per week is enough. If you got dry skin you should use it more often, 2-3 times per week. The reason for this is that it is the dry skin that needs help with getting rid of dead skin cells so the skin absorbs the moisturiser better. If you have oily skin and exfoliate too often the skin will start producing more grease. A bit of trial and error and you will find out how oftne per week is good for you. For you with acne If you have problems with acne you have to be very careful using exfoliators since this can make the problem worse. There are special exfoliators for skin with acne that help prevent this but you always have to be careful! The best thing to do if you have problem skin or acne is to go to your doctor or some other specialist who can help with the correct products and treatments and in some cases, medication. Wow – your skin is now cleaner than ever before and it is time for the final touches – the moment you have been waiting for - moisturizing! Do you need to freshen up on the former lessons first?
