Shaving is one of these annoying things that have to be done every now and then. A lot of other things can be turned into enjoyment, but shaving does not seem to be one of them – or?
After trying I figured out that to make the shaving into a pleasurable experience you have to let someone else do the shaving; you have to go old style. Men often think of facials etc as something very feminine and few places have tried to really find something that would fit men, something masculine to get them into all these salons. This is why newly opened “Barber & Books” at Södermalm in Stockholm is so overly clever, because it is solemnly made for men. My own first experience of getting a shave from someone else was not at Barber & Books, but it was done by Herbert Patzer during an event by grooming.se. Herbert is famous for having been the hairdresser of Swedish Prime Ministers for the past 40 years (the present one, Mr Reinfeldt, still does not seem convinced though). As a first timer it will always feel a bit strange to let someone else shave you; and yes – you will be a tad nervous. After all there is an extremely sharp knife involved and you are not holding it yourself. The error you do is to think of the mistakes you do yourself; mistakes done with a normal razor, leaving your face scared. Forget about this and remember that in front of you (or rather over) you have a professional; a professional that knows about different hair and skin types and that will know what will be the best for you. Once you relax you will be able to, presumably for the first time in your life, enjoy a shave. It takes longer than it normally does, but on the other hand you will get a nice chat at the same time; instead of rushing it just to get it over with.
