They've been saying for about two years now that any minute now red lipstick will be making a bigger come back than Pammy's boobs but, unlike Pammy's delightful appendages, there was very little sign of the uptake. Until now.
On the high street at last I'm finally seeing the odd brave lady striding out with a fabulous red red mouth. After years of safe and subtle lip glosses, lipstick is a harsh screaming statement of female sensuality. It's yelling glamour, retro, and (ahem) sex and I think it's high time we all embrace this. Here are three of my faves: Chanel have the fabulous Rouge Allure which is lovely to wear, lasts well and has a great texture. And the packaging is so beautiful, you'll just want to be refreshing your lips in public! For a super shiny lip colour, try Lancome's Juicy Wear Duo. You "saturate" your lips with the long lasting colour (who writes this stuff?) and then whizz over that with their Juicy Wear Top Coat to give a lovely glossy shine and locks the colour in for an age. Another fabulous brand that has a great colour is Face Stockholm with their number 24. The packaging is fairly cute but doesn't take my breath away. However, the colour is a lovely woody red and has great staying power.
And finally, a couple of pointers. After years of being able to randomly slap on the gloss, do take care how you put your lipstick on or you'll look like a demented hooker and that's not a great look. Ever. Once applied, remember to blot or it can "bleed" (especially as you get older). Again, not a nice look. And do wear fabulous sunglasses to finish the look off. I'm loving the huge round ones by Calvin Klein to make you feel like Audrey Hepburn.
And most importantly of all, be happy and love yourself and your friends!
