Nicola Blackwell at Fashion WeekThe fabulous Miss Blackwell descends upon Stockholm Fashion Week.  Will it be Amazing Grace or Ugly Betty?

Monday 30 June

Today is the start of Spring/Summer Stockholm Fashion Week! I should have been here last night. I should have caught a flight. I should have been sipping champagne with the Ed. I should be waking up refreshed.

But I missed my flight.

With ease.

The journey back to London from Gatwick on the grubby Gatwick Express has never had a more depressed or surprised ("how did I get it so wrong?) passenger in their entire history.  I slunk home, ate pasta, drank wine and bought another ticket which made me feel more stupid than ever.  However, the deed was done so there's no use banging on about it.

The following morning, with the fear of the sweet lord in me, I was up at 5am and springing around like a mad woman terrified I may miss my 9.30am flight.  I made it back to Gatwick in plenty of time and caught the new flight without incident though I felt like throwing up most of the time with fear that I may have forgotten something crucial eg, clothes, passport or maybe at the wrong airport altogether.

We land in Stockholm to torrential rain (but I'm here!), meet the Ed and we taxi straight on down to the wonderful Berns hotel for the start of this seasons shows.

After a glass of champagne, I'm starting to relax but, horror of horrors, there's no seat for us so we have the humility of standing up. But first there's a grand opening with the cutting of ribbon (oh the glamour), everyone claps and a baby yells (they bring babies to these do's?). Then the lights dim. This is my favourite moment. The room is packed tight with people, the beautiful, the not so beautiful and the strange, photographers are poised at the end of the run way, it's warm, the music is huge with a bass that could sink a ship and white lights are blinding.

The show was Lise Lotte Westerlund. The colours were mainly white and black and there was a lot of fabulous glossy silk. There were hot pants and skirts were short, short short. The lines were not the body hugging/body conscious that we've seen in the last few years. The over all feel is a lot more relaxed though there were still some skinny trousers. Hair is pulled back into a severe high pony tail and make up was pretty natural (we all know what I feel about that look so I won't start banging on about it now). Overall, it was an inoffensive and very safe show but not a show-stopper.  Great goody bag though complete with chocolate mints!  Yum.

I should mention Max Factor who, once again, are a majoy contributor to the show. They give out make up (generally mascaras and foundations) which are very good so a huge thank you to them for another sterling job.

The next show was from Seoul and was by Agunanagirl. A strange name but whatever - I had a seat so I didn't give a monkeys.  The PR sheet which sets the scene was all in Swedish but I think I got the gist of something about a girl with a gun.  Hmmm.  In this time of soaring gun crime and youngsters stabbing one another to pieces, I'm not sure this is the best angle but I've probably got it wrong. It probably said there is a girl who has just come down from the mountain side where she's been milking her goats and she's very healthy and pretty.  But they didn't look terribly pretty or anything like they'd just milked their goats. They looked more like the Grim Reaper's entourage. Dark, dark makeup and more black and grey clothes with a bit of white thrown in. Again, clothes were a lot more flowing so no need for diets next year! A key feature were the leather accessories - a kind of bridle looking thing around or over the body without looking like a bondage baby. Hair was wet and combed straight back. The clothes did have a nice line but I found it a bit gloomy.

Do they do Spring or Summer over here??

And the final show of the day was Whyred and what a breath of fresh air! The show had a 50's/80's air about it. It had colour. It had fun. It made me want to run out to the beach and make sandcastles and drink Pimms. There were short denim shorts, skinny pencil skirts (obviously I wouldn't build a sandcastle in that), a cute silver puff ball skirt and a wonderful purple shorts jump suit. Girls hair was huge and fuzzy and make up was pale and it was all just lovely.  I left a happy lady.

The Ed and I trooped home in a goody bag wonderland, had a sushi dinner and then watched some truly appalling trash telly courtesy of the US which was wonderful. A perfect end to a very good day.
