The fabulous Miss Blackwell descends upon Stockholm Fashion Week. Will it be Amazing Grace or Ugly Betty?
After probably the best night's sleep ever (I think I pretty much passed out last night), The Ed and I got up with joy in our souls and prepared for another tough day. As soon as we were looking our usual gorgeous selves, we nipped off to +46 for the first show which was JoJo and Malou. JoJo & Malou This was the most colourful collection and fun so far! I'm not entirely sure about the cuts but I did enjoy the colour which, after the deluge of blacks, greys and whites was a welcome relief. However, unless you want to end up looking like a walking acid trip, I would strongly recommend you only wear a piece at a time with something way more sober which would really give these clothes the impact they deserve. Key pieces: cute pill box hats Resterods Okay, don't take this the wrong way but it was a bit bland. However, that's no bad thing. This was a nice, inoffensive show. The clothes are a safe purchase which I would definitely include in my wardrobe basics for the season. Key notes: slightly Victorian twist on the mens clothes and then the usual: short jumper dresses, high waist jeans and shirt dresses. Goody bag: a pair of pants! Richard Lindquist This was a bit of weird one really. the only thing I truly remember is the mens hair which was coiffed and covered with a hairnet. Though this was fun, I wouldn't advise any gentlemen to take this style up unless they want the living poop kicked out of them. There was a slight Victorian Dandy feel with this collection and overall it was very decent and a good turnout of good clothes. And you can't go far wrong with that. Pudel Do you remember when you were a skinny and completely miserable teenager (or you may still be one! Ahh, the memories of hormones in angst). This collection would have been your dream boat! This show was a real blast from the past - late 70's/early 80's to be precise as it was punk without the safety pins. Being British (whatever that means these days, foreign and/or violent I think), I really enjoyed this show with skinny black trousers, skinny black T shirts and skinny black cardigans, long tartan jackets and a hat collection of trilbys, bowlers and top hats. This was fabulously topped off with music by "Your Perfect Boyfriend" which I am so downloading as soon as I get the chance! Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair This was probably one of the best shows so far. It mixed both amazing clothes with pantomime humour and a good wallop of genius. Clothes waltzed past and every other one had me urgently thinking "I want that, and that, and that!". My favourites were a black dress with zips all over the place, a beautiful short black cape, a saucy little bustier (black of course), and a very beautiful coat (guess which colour!) On the "what on earth .....?" level, there was an enormous bubble skirt that a pregnant lady would look slim in, the back-pack-hunch-back look. All in all, a flipping good show. Well done and thank you! Key note: one of the models is so beautiful, both the Ed and I want to marry him immediately. Helena Hörstedt This show is definitely the haute couture of the week. People were desperate to get in, the room was jam packed and more were still trying to get in. There was no runway and the models walked through the seated crowds coming and going from all directions. Each dress is a drop of sculpted elegance as fabric is pleated, folded and rolled into exquisite shapes. Black fabric was turned into ringlets or rosettes and flattered the models every curve. This really was an entrancing piece. Goody bag: more fabulous make up from Max Factor, this time pink mascara!
Hunky Dory There were many things in this collection which, just like Resterods, will provide great basics for the season. Apart from that, there were great sleeves. And that's about it really. Goody bag: Cakes! And they were awesome. One cup cake was like a pannetonne and had yoghurt in the middle. Perfect! Until The Ed turned up and nicked half of mine muttering something that he didn't want to see me get fat. Cheap Mondays I can't lie. I really did not like this show at all. I tried so hard but it just fell over. It's hard core street wear, right down to the hoody dress. I tried to wonder where this would look good, who would wear this lot and the only answer that came to mind was "Thugs in Croydon where 14 year olds get pregnant". Sorry. Goody bag: a scarf! And that was it for another day. It was a lovely day of contrasts from the clothes to the two main venues. The people were charming (most of them were anyway). The Ed and I limped home, dinner, worked and then worked some more. And this is a holiday?
