Nicola at SFW

The fabulous Miss Blackwell descends upon Stockholm Fashion Week.  Will it be Amazing Grace or Ugly Betty?

What have I done? What's happened? This is not the champagne swilling jolly I'd anticipated. I've only had three glasses of the adored bubbly since I arrived. This is just bloody hard work.

The Ed and I reach the show. He takes his pitch with the photographers and I grab my seat and go through emails on the blackberry. And joy of joy, the pNicola - looking fabulous.hotographer from Elle magazine takes my picture.  My little ego filled the room and I felt ever so very, very important and sent a text to The Ed immediately.

The first show of the day was Dagmar which is three sisters who design together. It's been said in the past that their collections look as though three different people have designed them (which they have) with no cohesion or flow.  However, today was a turning point for these three ladies as their clothes glided past showing elegance, sophistication and a unified spirit.  "Superman" by Lorri Anderson pounded out and the models strode by. Dark blue silks in simple cuts, figure hugging lines, short skirts and round necks were the order of the day. There was a wonderful dark grey "sparkle" dress with a polo neck and long sleeves - so me!

Overall - a very good show

Goody bag - Wella "High Hair" and a very, very cute scarf.  Deep satisfaction.

I also saw Hope, Velour, Mini Market and the +46 Fashion Award show. With Lorri Anderson belting out "Superman", the models strode past. There are so many similarities between the collections that I won't go into each one as that would just bore the pants off you. Here are the main points.

Hair - still straight hair I'm afraid. It's either being held in a slick and high pony tail or rumpled up and tucked into your scarf which is wrapped several times around your neck. There is a lot of knitwear (not surprising as this is an Autumn/Winter collection) and the overall tone is quite "country". The knits generally have horizontal stripes and are in different browns, blacks, the odd hint of orange. Shirt dresses are going to be huge, short in length and ending in a gathered hem.  Trousers are skinny, skinny, skinny.  Colours are black, greys, some white and the odd flash of orange and very occasionally fushia pink.  Ribs are being hugged before the garment falls away. Clothes are not flowing now. If anything they are becoming quite constructed.

My love points from each show are: Dagmar had big and beautiful feather broaches, DDagmar - a/w 2008agmar mens clothes had a '50s feel with straight trousers, skinny ties, cardigans and severe side parting hair styles (a bit like Hitler without the moustache) whilst Velour had a lovely huge quilted gold coat that was quite Audrey Hepburn.

We also went over to a venue called +46, a very funky warehouse space with a bar/cafe upstairs (and is mentioned in the UK Wallpaper magazine). This place is showing a large collection of up and coming, young designers.  Ones to look out for Bea Szenfeld with really cute retro clothes with a modern twist, check out Zetterberg who have some very elegant 40's inspired kit, Erica Laurell with fine knitted dresses with a lovely bow pattern on the neck, and finally Vapour who, though their stuff was tending towards the Goth look, still had some pretty impressive clothes.

And so, after viewing the collections and the art installation at +46, we headed home completely and utterley exhausted. The Ed stayed up till horribly late adding to SFD whilst I just passed out.  Oh the joy of sleep!
