It is time for the Ed to go ”home” to London; the city that I lived in for several years. London is not only my second home but also one of the worlds fashion capitals where a number of Swedes within the industry are well established.
Monday and Tuesday has been two very slow days but considering that I have pretty much worked every day since Christmas day it was just what I needed. My friend was still in town, staying with the fabulous Ms Blackwell, so we started the day with a coffee at Starbucks. Luckily for me they also had their yummy but oh so unfashionable and unhealthy cinnamon swirls… A few hours later and some chillin it is time for my friend to take off for Heathrow and the flight home to Sweden. The Ed goes back home and hangs out in the house that is overly crowded. Because of birthdays, holidays and other things the house is packed with people right now so always people coming and going – I love it! Tuesday morning I have a bit of a cold so stay in and do the lovely work of fixing the pictures of spring and summer clothes that will eventually be presented to you. It is actually the only boring part of my job but… I know that it is important and something people want to see so… no way out of it and once I get into it, it is not too bad. I also went into town for a walk and kept looking at people and I keep being amazed. Though London is a very fashionable city with supertrendy people you also have the big mass that is extremely boring. I guess it is the extremes that make it fun and interesting. Just walking in town for about two hours is great inspiration though, not the least because the different clusters all around town. In Soho you have all the media people in their characteristic slightly baggy and washed out jeans and sneakers outfit. Oh – do not forget the hanging bag. Apart from that it is quite conservative with a shirt and v-necked sweater. Moving to the City or CW you will see suits, suits and more suits – on men and women. A lot of the women have taken up the Wall Street style of wearing bright white sneakers to work, where they swap to heels. Even though it is rather cold in London you most definitely will not see any half long jackets, the style so popular in Sweden. People will rather be caught dead here than wearing those and I always get teased for mine (normally they get why we wear them after a visit to Sweden in the winter) and do not care the least when I say it is practical. This city is just not focused on practical whatsoever…
