It is time for the Ed to go ”home” to London; the city that I lived in for several years. London is not only my second home but also one of the worlds fashion capitals where a number of Swedes within the industry are well established.
9.10am is really a bit too early for a flight for me, since it means I do have to get up at about 6am. It all went well though and the Ed accompanied by one of his best friends took off on time. Coming in to London is obviously something different but… slightly more than two hours from touchdown to unloading bags at another friend’s house is not too bad – not for London. Officially I am in London to celebrate my birthday but when in Rome… After all; London is one of the fashion capitals of the world and there are loads of Swedes in the industry that are based here. This is why I decided to stay a bit longer and really see how these Swedes together with Swedish fashion are doing. Getting some London inspiration is never wrong either. Arriving in London on a Saturday also means drinking… Three hours after touchdown I have my first glass of wine in my hand and it is followed by several more, not the least since Saturday was the day for my birthday drinks. No – age will not be revealed!! My first couple of days has not really had anything to do with fashion, but instead it has been a very typical London weekend. This includes quite a lot of wine but also socializing and catching up with a lot of friends I haven’t met for quite some time now. I love being around my friends here and it is a huge difference to Stockholm since you always seem to hang out in groups here. People are just never excluded and you never hang out exclusively with just one or two friends but people will kind of come and go all day long which I love. It does come with the job to notice what people are wearing though and what their general appearance is. The difference between London and Stockholm always struck me straight away when I arrive here. The London look is just so… London. I can always sp ot a Londoner on their clothes since the style is so typical. I will try and get some good pictures to describe it more in detail. I do love the fact that people are not afraid here. The result might not always be perfect or elegant but instead it is fun and experimental and very far from the conservative style in Stockholm. Both have their good sides but to get a bit of this every now and then is just fantastic. I wish people were a bit more like this in Stockholm but then… Sweden would also lose a bit of its fashion identity. Oh well – that was pretty much the fashion reflections that I did over the weekend. Apart from that it was drinks – had a fantastic birthday drinks with my friends in Soho followed by some clubbing. Sunday was a very lazy day with walk in Canary Wharf and Greenwich. In CW I took some great pictures for a future little project that you will definitely here more about later on. I love CW because it is the only place in London that is really perfect; clean, contemporary, glass, concrete and steel – super cool! Day ended with a nap and then a nice dinner at my friends house (only five of us… quite amazing). In all – a perfect London weekend to start off my trip with.
